First off - I'm sure you'd agree w/ me that Joe accomplishes
that sound through a gazillion different influencing
factors such as; guitar, pickups, strings, amp, miking
techniques and lastly, but certainly not least, his
God-given talent. Having said that - I think people
like you and I can accomplish something 'close' by reproducing
as much of those basic build blocks as possible. So
- last year I ran out and bought a nifty new Satriani
model Ibanez (btw, I hate it...;) and attempted to record
a composition of my own - in a 'Satriani-ish' style.
It's not perfect, but I think captures some 'overtones'
of Joe's sound. Here's a URL,
if you're interested, of a sample of that guitar sound.
Specs: Ibanez, JS series, Satriani model. 2-double humbuckers.
Front hum was used. There's a pull on the volume knob
to go to a single-coil sound that was used.
This patch comes from U21(Delayed Lead). Reverb was
standard. Again - there's a million things that will
effect your final sound - and mine's certainly not perfect.
But maybe it's a place to start.
